DeVonta Smith, the wide receiver of the Philadelphia Eagles, has made a startling revelation about his lifestyle. The recent comments become more interesting as the 24-year-old footballer is expecting his first baby with his longtime girlfriend, Mariah Abraham, during the coming NFL season. Caring for a newborn is not an easy task and may force the athlete to stay awake throughout the night.

However, that does not seem to be a concern for the athlete, as he claimed that he needs only four hours of sleep a day to stay fit! In an interaction with ‘The Pivot Podcast,’ the athlete, who is also popular by the nickname ‘Slim Reaper,’ said that he does not need to sleep more than four hours.

“The only good thing about that is that I don’t need a lot of sleep,” Smith said. “I get four hours of sleep, I’m good. All I need is four hours. If I sleep a full eight hours, I ain’t going to be worth nothing the next day,” he said in the interview.

The remark might come out as shocking to many, especially the experts and medical professionals, since athletes need to have a perfect schedule of sleep to maintain fitness. Most doctors prescribe high-level athletes to sleep eight hours in a day and some athletes sleep more than eight hours. According to a report by Fox Sports, some of the best athletes like Justin Verlander sleep 10 hours in the night. Tennis ace Roger Federer also once said that he felt it was not good for him to have less than 11/12 hours of sleep in the night.

There are a maximum of two weeks to go before the new NFL roller-coaster ride starts. The Philadelphia Eagles finished their last season with a 14-3-0 record. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, they have gone through 14 training camps and a couple of pre-season games. They have listed three quarterbacks, Jalen Hurts, Marcus Mariota, and Tanner McKee. Their success depends on the performance of their star quarterback Jalen Hurts. Last season, Smith also performed pretty well and in this season the Eagles need him to continue that good form.

Considering the team strength and squad depth, experts have already put the Eagles on their list of favorites. However, not everyone seems to have a strong bet on them. Analyst Craig Carton believes that it will be difficult for them to provide top-notch performance. They will have a long road to success.

Philadelphia Eagles will start their NFL journey on 10th September against the New England Patriots.
