Byron Jones has finally decided to hang up his cleats for good. The Miami Dolphins CB had an illustrious career in the NFL, where he played on the top level for several years. However, those grueling years took a massive toll on his health and Jones had to retire prematurely to save what was left of him.
The 30-year-old CB missed the entirety of last season due to ankle and Achilles surgeries. Jones now confirmed that he won’t be a part of the NFL from next season as he believes no amount of success is worth “avoidable chronic pain and disabilities”.
“It was an honor and privilege to play in the NFL but it came at a regrettable cost I did not foresee. In my opinion, no amount of professional success or financial gain is worth avoidable chronic pain and disabilities. Godspeed to the draft class of 2023,” Jones stated on Twitter as his farewell words.
This drastic decision by Jones took the NFL world by storm, and many current and former NFL players consoled the CB for his health and wished him a speedy recovery. However, free agent WR Dez Bryant was heavily emotional after reading Jones’ statement and decided to pen down an emotional farewell for the CB.
“I like almost cried reading this… know this feeling and I got criticized and destroyed for speaking my truth…. Thank you Byron…. You always been a real 1… this make me wanna continue to go hard to get my point across… ??,” Dez Bryant wrote on Twitter.

Byron Jones can’t jump or run after suffering massive injuries
American Football is one of the most physical sports in the world and injuries are pretty common during the plays. The NFL has tried to come up with various regulations and rules to contain the injuries, however, they still happen considering the intensity of the game.
Byron Jones used to play as a safety for the Dolphins, and the safety’s job is one of the most physical in the game. As a given, this led to Jones suffering massive injuries that have disabled him from running and jumping properly, let alone playing an entire NFL game.
Jones believes that no amount of money or success can replace the fact that this is a deadly sport and the long-term implications of many injuries incurred and are deadly and sometimes fatal. However, there are still millions of people who strive and dream to play in the NFL, the most popular sports league in the country.
