Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer‘s celebrity charity golf event has been canceled. Poyer’s representative, the Avalon Group, announced on Saturday. It’s an annual charity event hosted by Jordan Poyer and attended by various celebrities from different fields. The event was scheduled for July 10th, but the date has been pushed back.

Blue Monster, the Trump National Doral Miami, was the venue for the event, owned by former President Donald Trump. Sources say that the teams “up north” and sponsors withdrew after finding out the name of the location. The money that the event would generate was supposed to go to Erie County Medical Center Foundation in Buffalo, NY. However, they did not disclose who the participants were.

On his Instagram, Poyer revealed that they will host the event next year. Poyer said that ECMC was one of the primary sponsors of the event, but the foundation claimed they were beneficiaries, not sponsors. He said, “They (ECMC) decided they didn’t want to take part in my tournament, which they took part in last year, because of where it’s at, at Trump National Doral in South Florida.” ECMC had to back out because of pressure. “ECMC decided they could no longer take the pressure from up top,” said Poyer, stating that ECMC probably had no say in the end.

Spokesperson Susan Gonzalez of ECMC shed some more light on the matter last Saturday. “ECMC Foundation was fortunate to be a beneficiary of Jordan Poyer’s golf tournament,” she said. “We have had an excellent partnership with Jordan, and we respect his decision to cancel his tournament.”

It seems the participants did not want to be associated with the word Trump.

When Jordan Poyer announced the venue will be one of Donald Trump’s golf courses for this year’s Charity Golf event, there were already signs that many did not like it. He then faced backlash on social media, and eventually, the participants withdrew.

Poyer’s representative, Avalon, took to Twitter and condemned the trolling. “Unfortunately, we were sadly surprised by negative comments by some individuals trying to make this a political battle and divide our community,” Avalon stated in the Twitter post. “We condemn any type of violence and stand by Jordan as he continues to work to make a positive impact.”

Moreover, in his Instagram video, Poyer spoke about the backlash. He said, “All we do is fight with each other all day about politics, about religion, about race. It blows my mind that we sit here in America today with these issues.” Poyer’s Bills teammates Josh Allen and Gabe Davis showed their support for him.

This is one of the long list of events that Trump’s golf course has lost recently. Not too long ago, the PGA Tour cut ties and moved the 2022 PGA Championship from his New Jersey course to somewhere else. The R & A said earlier that they would not host the British Open at Trump’s Turnberry Golf Resort in Scotland.
