“It just has to change!” Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert raises major concerns over the playing field after teammate Jaelen Phillips’ non-contact Achilles injury
Mostert said no player wants to go down with an injury.

The MetLife Stadium turf claimed another victim. On this occasion, Miami Dolphins defensive end Jaelen Phillips went due to a non-contact injury. After the game, running back Raheem Mostert spoke on the matter, and he was not happy with it.
During the post-match press conference, reporters asked Mostert what his thoughts were on Jaelen Phillips’ injury. He replied,
We’ve got to do something about this turf and this playing surface. It just has to change.
Well, one might argue. Kirk Cousins went down in a similar fashion, but he was playing on grass at Lambeau Field. The thing is, the surface of the artificial turf is very tough and silky. It allows players to run faster, but one wrong step may lead to significant time on the hospital bed.
Mostert also pointed out another famous injury that took place on the first day of the season. Aaron Rodgers had to be carted off after tearing his Achilles, and he had to undergo surgery. Mostert added:
You saw what happened to Rodgers in his very first game, in the first series. It’s tough, especially playing on this turf. No player wants to go down with a significant injury.

During the fourth quarter, during the New York Jets possession, Phillips lined up just behind the line of scrimmage. As Tim Boyle took the snap, the 24-year-old got into motion, but his first step turned out to be his last on the night.
A video surfaced that showed his left leg popping awkwardly. Phillips went down, and players gathered around him to see what happened. Moments later, he was carted off for further examination.
Raheem Mostert wants the MetLife Authority to do something about it, or else players will keep getting hurt.
Obviously, it's a major problem, even with trying to figure out what we can do, but it has to change.
Dolphins safety Jevon Holland was another one that almost fell prey in the fourth quarter. Fortunately, he finished the game and even scored a Hail Mary Pick 6. Holland later said he was fine, but his reaction was not as lenient as Mostert’s. He branded the turf “trash” and revealed that he had heard about it before but did not realize that it would be so bad.
Furthermore, good news came after the Dolphins won 13-34 and extended their record to 8-3. Phillips posted a tweet to update on his injury.
The Dolphins will be lucky if the 2021 first-round pick manages to avoid a season-ending injury. If it really is an Achilles tear, then they will lose a player who had 5.5 sacks this season.
