The world of entertainment right now is witnessing a clash between two movies. The releases of titles “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” have been trending in the past few days. This had led to the sporting world also getting involved in discussing the viral trend. These words have been in the mouth of many. It somehow turned costly for radio host, Don Geronimo who was fired for referring to his fellow media person as “Barbie girl”.

Geronimo who goes by the real name of Michael Sorce, made this “sexist” comment towards reporter Sharla McBride. The radio host who covers the NFL side Washington Commanders saw his action leading to iHeartMedia, the parent company barring them from training facilities.

Hey look, Barbie’s here. Hi, Barbie girl,” Geronimo was heard saying while on air. He later claimed that he thought she was a part of the cheerleading team, while stating he did not knew her. In that same broadcast with his co-host Crash Young, they spotted McBride again. The radio host would mention how he thought she was the one woman his media partner Young thought to be “tight”.

Following huge outrage regarding this, the company decided to part ways with him. In a statement, they informed how the radio host was no longer an employee. They further added they take such matters very seriously and such type of behavior does not represent their values.

Don Geronimo yet to make a comment regarding this matter

Whether it was a slip of the tongue, or done on purpose remains to be determined. Don Geronimo’s comments on his fellow professionals did not go down well with many which soon cost him his job. Sharla McBride, the reporter who was the target of this comments by him claimed she was “hurt” by it. Team owner Josh Harris and president Jason Wright were also left annoyed by this development.

When I heard the comments made about me on the radio show, I felt incredibly insulted and embarrassed,” she said. She went on to state that in her 17 years as a professional, she had never faced any like this before. McBride later deemed the comments as “sexist” and “misogynistic”. She also added that she appreciated the quick action by the company involving this huge matter.

Meanwhile, Geronimo has refused to provide any sort of statement regarding the incident. He said, “At this time, I will not be providing comment on the events of the last few days.” He has also not apologized for this action on live air.

The 64-year-old has been a popular name in radio hosting. He along with Mike O’ Meara established the “Don and Mike” show and covered several topics on NFL. The program ran from 1985 and concluded in 2008. Since then he has made trades with several names and signed an extension with the WBIG. As of now, no criminal charges have been filed against him.
