There have been many players who started out in a different sport but later transitioned to football and built a name for themselves in the NFL. Some of whom Drew Brees has seen personally. And now, he makes a case for one of the young basketball sensation to join the NFL, instead of the NBA.
Last week, while watching the basketball sensation DJ Burns on the basketball court, the former NFL quarterback was asked how one starts as a basketball player and then becomes a different beast by going into the offensive line. Brees‘ two former teammates, Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham, started as basketball players.
Well, I wouldn’t say O-line but I’d say obviously see tight end. Those guys are used to putting their bodies in a position where they can shield defenders, where you can get them the ball down low.responded Drew Brees, considering the fact that Burns is 6’9″ and 275 pounds, via Bleacher Report.
When further asked for the legendary quarterback’s views on whether Burns would be great on the football field as protecting the blindside with his huge physique.
I think the way he plays the game, though, it’s like he’d be the one coming after the quarterback, you know?said Brees
DJ Burns addresses NFL rumors head-on
Well, the former New Orleans Saints quarterback isn’t the one to include the NC star Burns and the NFL in the same sentence. As Burns recently came under the limelight as a basketball sensation, he has become quite popular in the NFL circles as well. As many believe, given his strength, playing technique, light feet, and NFL-ready body, he is just the right fit to become a star in the NFL.
Everybody needs a story to keep it interesting. Maybe there was too much downtime for people to think or something, but I ain't playing no football.DJ Burns said via ESPN
Though the NC star appreciates all the love he is getting, he made it clear that he has zero interest in switching his career at this moment. As for his NBA draft scenario, it still seems a long way.
