Everson Griffen is an American football player who played in the NFL for more than a decade with 3 different teams. He spent the majority of his career playing for the Minnesota Vikings as a star defensive end. Griffen has been struggling with mental health problems for a while and now, the former defensive end has been arrested in Minnesota for driving under the influence.

According to reports, Griffen was booked into the Carver County Jail at 12:41 p.m. on Saturday on suspicion of impaired driving in Chanhassen. However, he has not been formally charged yet, per reports. He was released just an hour after the arrest.

Griffen, who resides in Mound, Minnesota, has been out of the league since 2021. He played his last game in the NFL for the Vikings back in 2021 but still hasn’t announced his retirement yet. He has been struggling with mental health problems that gave him some problems in 2018 and 2021.

In 2021, he posted a concerning post on Instagram with a handgun, which led to police officers checking on him at his home. A few days later, the 4-time Pro Bowl defensive end confirmed that he is diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

“It’s true I am bipolar,” Griffen said according to SI. “I will embrace it and I will be an advocate for mental health. I [have] been running from it a long time. I’m not ashamed of it anymore.” Ever since he revealed that he has been struggling with bipolar disorder, Griffen hasn’t been getting into a lot of troubles, but now the former Vikings DE has once again gotten into an off-field fiasco.

The USC product Everson Griffen was drafted by the Vikings in the 4th round (100th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. Griffen has had a remarkable career for a fourth-rounder.

The 6’3″ defensive end spent the majority of his career in Minnesota wreaking havoc in the trenches. He registered 85.5 sacks and 403 total tackles during his career. His best year came back in 2017 when he registered 13 sacks and 45 total tackles in a season which led to him receiving his only All-Pro (second-team) recognition in his 12-year-long career.

During his successful NFL career, Griffen received 4 Pro Bowl nods. At the back end of his career, Griffen had brief stints with the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions, but returned to Minnesota in 2021.

He last played in the league in 2021 for the Vikings. The explosive defensive end registered 5 sacks in 9 games before he started to have serious off-field struggles which cut short his career.
