Earlier this offseason linebacker Drue Tranquill had decided to join NFL team Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year contract worth $3 million. Tranquill spent the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers but has now decided to make the change.

In the four years that he spent with the Los Angeles Chargers, Tranquill recorded 146 combined tackles and five sacks. Along with this, he has eight QB hits, ten tackles for loss and four passes deflected.

The Kansas City Chiefs already boast a great defence but Tranquill’s addition is a big boost to their squad depth. Moreover, they are familiar with Tranquill’s playing style as he comes from an AFC West rival. Having seen the Kansas City Chiefs go to three Super Bowl finals in his four years in the NFL, he was tempted to join the arch-rival.

Drue Tranquill spoke on Thursday’s NFL Total Access to explain what motivated him to join the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. He said he was extremely impressed by the way the Chiefs tried to bring him over. “Well, obviously, to me, obviously football is a business, but football’s also family,” he said as reported by the official NFL website. “I poured my heart out there for four years in L.A. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out. I was really honored by the way the Chiefs pursued me, all the way from the front office down to the coaching staff.”

Furthermore, Drue Tranquill said that the Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid personally messaged him to join Kansas. Reid apparently pursued Tranquill by telling him the Chiefs can get him to lay hands on the Super Bowl trophy. Here is what he had to say: “Andy Reid literally texted me the morning of [when] I was going to make my decision and he was like, ‘Think red. Think red. Think Super Bowls.’ I just felt really valued over there, felt like they really had a role for me and really wanted me over there. So, I’m excited to join up with those guys. I’m going to miss a lot of my teammates and coaches over there in L.A., but excited for this next step.”

The Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champions and will start the 2023/24 season as strong favorites to lift ut once again under the tutelage of veteran head coach Andy Reid.
