“She taught me patience”: Falcons draft pick Desmond Ridder shares a “life-altering” story

It was an extremely joyous moment for 22-year-old Desmond Ridder when he received the call from the Atlanta Falcons to let him know that he would be their third-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. It was the moment when Ridder’s and his family’s struggles to get an NFL contract finally came to an end.
Reliving the day when he got the call, Ridder revealed how he stuck to the cell phone in hopes of getting a phone call. He even nudged his mother, Sarah Ridder, to grab her attention when Atlanta Falcons GM Terry Fontenot called him.

Desmond Ridder spoke highly of his mother after getting the NFL contract
“It was a moment I’ve been waiting for my whole life,” Desmond Ridder gushed with joy as he revealed the details to the Atlanta Falcons website following his trade move. “It was a dream I’ve had ever since I was a little kid. When I saw it was an Atlanta number, a 404 number, I was really excited. It wasn’t that far from home, and I knew that the culture here in Atlanta, as far as the grit, the want-to-work, the hard, tough and nasty culture that is here, that’s something that I wanted to be a part of. It’s something I pride myself on, hard work, grit and effort.”
Desmond Ridder highlighted his mother, Sarah Ridder’s importance in her life, who gave birth when she was only 15 years old and has raised him singlehandedly to become a footballer. The quarterback also reminisced about how she taught him to be patient throughout his journey in life.
“One thing is that she has taught me patience,” Ridder said. “Patience with this whole process. Patience with the journey of life. And, obviously, patience as a father. Not everything is going to go 100 per cent your way or how you expect it to go. If you go with the flow and let things go, everything will work itself out.”
