The general narrative surrounding Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott majorly revolves around his poor performances in the postseason games. The 29-year-old quarterback has found himself at the center of criticism throughout the past season, due to his form and inability to lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl appearance.
This criticism was also fueled by the fact that his side suffered a disappointing 19-13 defeat against the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round playoff game last season. To pile on the misery for Dak Prescott, he had his worst-ever season as a quarterback, recording a whopping 15 interceptions which also happened to be the highest in the league last year.
However, it is not fair to criticize a quarterback solely based on the number of interceptions he records during the season. The past season wasn’t the best for Prescott personally, but if a larger period is considered, there are several other quarterbacks who have thrown more interceptions than the Cowboys man.
Dak Prescott has recorded fewer INTs than Josh Allen and Joe Burrow since 2021
Since 2021, Prescott has thrown a total of 25 interceptions, the same number as thrown by Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. Considering the same parameter, Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen tops the list with a whopping 29 interceptions thrown, but the 27-year-old hardly seems to catch the media’s attention in regard to bad performances.
Josh Allen also became the first Bills player to feature on the cover of the popular video game, EA Madden NFL 2024. This was despite him having the most INTs thrown along other statistics which do not bode well for the Bills QB, but it is not about arguing whether Prescott should have been on the cover.
One certain fan on Twitter seems to have found a reason why the media is so obsessed with Dak Prescott’s failures, even though he has performed better than other quarterbacks. The fan called Ernie on Twitter felt the undue criticism might be because of Prescott’s mixed-race background.
The fan wrote, “It’s gotta be a race thing at this point with Dak Prescott lol.”
Before we jump the gun and consider that this theory could be true, it is important to note that the fan clearly made a joke which he even clarified in one of his replies later on when other users started pointing out that even Patrick Mahomes is of African American descent.
Prescott, therefore, does not need to worry about him copping unnecessary criticism due to his biracial background. He, however, needs to find a way to get himself back to his best during the regular season and finish on a high in the postseason, something which he has failed to do a number of times in his career now.
