“He’s not worth that kind of money”: NFL fans react as former ESPN president John Skipper criticizes Tom Brady’s deal with FOX
Tom Brady
Tom Brady has broken a lot of records on the field in his long NFL career. He broke yet another record when he signed a massive 10-year deal with FOX Sports to join them as an analyst for $375 million. Brady will be announcing games and will appear on some shows on the network from time to time as well. A new question is if Brady is really worth this kind of money? Initial thoughts would be, what kind of a question is that? He is Tom freaking Brady, the GOAT.
In the NFL, a contract of that level would have made sense but we are talking about the media here. As a broadcaster, it may not be the most sensible deal as we do not even know how Tom Brady is as a broadcaster. He is expected to attract the most viewership but that is only for his first few games broadcasting, will the fans return and watch Brady later on? That depends on him. If he adopts a diplomatic approach and does not critique players or plays by any team, viewers will get bored but if he does commentate freely and critique players, then Tommy may end up being good at this as well.

“There’s very little economic value” Former ESPN President John Skipper on Tom Brady’s contract:
ESPN is clearly salty at the moment, they failed to land the GOAT, and adding Brady to their already stacked squad would have doubled their viewership at the least. However, FOX Sports is lucky as they landed him, if TB12 signed with any other network, it is likely that FOX would have lost a lot of viewership. ESPN’s John Skipper thinks that his competitors have made a mistake by signing Brady.
“There’s very little economic value, He’s a very, very, very expensive trophy,” Skipper said on the Dan Le Batard Show last week. Twitter users believed that the President is just mad that his network could not land Brady. In all likelihood, if ESPN had a chance to sign him, they would have jumped at it but since that did not happen, the network has no option but to criticize his contract as a whole.
In general, there is very little economic value with most top sports announcers but there is a lot of money going around in the form of these contracts. Networks are entering bidding wars over these players who have established a lot on the football field and are looking to transition into broadcasting.
One user tweeted, “Uh yea. Because he’s not even remotely worth that kind of money. Literally not a single on-air person is,” his name is worth that much, and FOX desperately needs a revamp which TB12 will provide.
Another user believes the former ESPN president is just jealous, “Yet, if he was still running ESPN he would of matched the offer without blinking,” there is no arguing there.
“Outside of a reincarnated John Madden, I don’t think anyone would add enough value to fulfill that contract,” another fan pitched in. There will not be another Madden, the way
