Just a few days ago, the college football playoff committee shocked a lot of people by excluding Florida State Seminoles from the CFP despite their perfect 13-0 record. Instead, the committee ranked the 1-loss Alabama Crimson Tide as the 4th best team in the entire nation.
As a result, fans started to question the integrity of the committee and their motive behind excluding FSU. And now, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is launching an investigation to find the answer to it.
On Tuesday, Florida AG Ashley Moody shared a video on the social media platform X, in which she announced her intention to launch an investigation to find answers over the unprecedented incident.
I'm a lifelong Gator, but I'm also the Florida attorney general, and I know injustice when I see it. No rational person or college football fan can look at this situation and not question the result. The NCAA, conferences and the College Football Playoff committee are subject to antitrust laws.Moody said in her statement
During the 2023 college football season, the Seminoles had a perfect 13-0 record, including victories against ranked opponents and the ACC conference title. However, since they lost their quarterback Jordan Travis to an injury during the late stages of the regular season, the committee decided to go with 12-1 Alabama instead.
The decision made many Florida State fans furious since they won 2 games without Travis as their starting QB. Fans and even Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called out the committee for stripping them of their deserved a chance at winning the National Championship.
Florida AG Ashley Moody vows to get answers from CFP committee over FSU’s exclusion
While fans were furious about the CFP snubbing the Florida State Seminoles, Attorney General Ashley Moody has now vowed to get answers from the committee for their actions.
My office is launching an investigation to examine if the committee was involved in any anticompetitive conduct. As it stands, the committee's decision reeks of partiality, so we are demanding answers -- not only for FSU, but for all schools, teams and fans of college football.Moody on Tuesday
Nonetheless, it seems like everyone already knows what the CFP answer will be. They excluded FSU since their best player got injured during the final stage of the regular season and they might not be the same team without him. CFP has written rules that allow them to reject teams from playoffs for that exact reason. So, they wouldn’t have a problem with the investigation or the lawsuit.
