“Continues to impress me,” Former Tampa Bay QB makes a CONFIDENT statement on Bears’ young QB Justin Fields to alleviate fears

Chicago Bears QB, Justin Fields took all the required steps to be a top 5 choice the previous year. At Ohio State, he won his conference hands down. He defeated his fiercest rival (Trevor Lawrence) with six touchdown passes to get to the national championship game and the College Football Playoffs twice.

Justin Fields was large, athletic, quick, had a strong arm, and had a sterling work ethic. He managed to slip out of the top 10, finishing 11th overall thanks to the Chicago Bears.

Not everybody acted surprised. Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms was an outspoken critic of Fields. Before the 2021 draft, he had the Buckeyes star ranked 4th among quarterbacks behind Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, and Kellen Mond. That last one has to look rough, considering the Minnesota Vikings cut Mond after one season. Simms even doubled down a month later, calling Fields the 39th-best QB in the NFL out of 40 qualified names.

How much a year can change. Simms discussed quarterback problems in the NFL with insider Mike Florio. When Fields was brought up, he was questioned about his level of enthusiasm for the Bears quarterback on a scale of 1 to 10.

He conceded it was excessive. Around 8 to 8.5. He is certain that great things are coming after what he has observed over the previous month of the preseason, particularly with regard to Fields’ footwork and throwing mechanics.

Justin Fields is a budding star for the Chicago Bears

Chris Simms and Justin Fields.

In the preseason, Fields completed 23 of 30 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns. With each game he played, his appearance got better. It’s difficult to overlook how at ease he is with the new offense.

With rollouts and bootlegs, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy has done a fantastic job of combining the run and pass while pushing Fields outside the pocket. Anything that can be done to make his quarterback’s life simpler. The initial results are encouraging.

Each time he speaks, it’s clear he means that. He hasn’t made any overt claims, but it is clear that he is motivated and focused. He is still aware of what Simms and everyone else said about him last year.

The current season will be unique. He doesn’t worry if his wide receivers may not have adequate talent or if the offensive line is still lacking in quality. Fields will find a way to make it work because great quarterbacks always find a way. He is determined to succeed and wants to be the best.

Because of this, teammates keep telling the media that no one is prepared for what is about to happen. They are unaware of what goes on away from the cameras. Every waking hour is devoted to labour. Extra throwing workouts. Extra film research more exercises extra of everything.

You can never accuse Justin Fields of lacking motivation. He is prepared to make any sacrifices necessary to improve if that is what it takes. He has progressed quicker than everyone anticipated because of this.

He hasn’t arrived yet. There are still issues to be resolved. He has a propensity to leave the pocket too soon. He continues to hold the ball rather than taking his check-downs too long. That is not uncommon. Young quarterbacks must have time to address these problems. Fields, though, is improving. Much better. Simms and everyone else in 2022 will be treated to a display if the offensive line can keep him safe.
