On Monday, the Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper announced that his team is parting ways with multiple coaches including their head coach Frank Reich. With that, Reich’s short tenure in Carolina has come to an end, but he will still get paid a lot of money by the Panthers for 3 more years.

Owner David Tepper fired HC Frank Reich, quarterback coach Josh McCown, and assistant head coach/ running backs coach Duce Staley. The firings came within 24 hours after their tough loss against the Tennessee Titans in their week 12 matchup. Special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will take over the team as their interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Reich was hired by the Panthers in the 2022 off-season. He was given the job of rebuilding the Carolina-based football team as well as developing their rookie quarterback Bryce Young. However, nothing worked out for the Panthers in the 2023 regular season, despite their promising off-season.

As a result, Reich was fired by Tepper after just 11 games, which is the shortest tenure by a head coach in the history of the league. His record with the Panthers was just 1 win and 10 losses. Besides, this is the second straight year Reich has been fired by a team in the middle of the season. During the 2022 season, Reich was fired by the Indianapolis Colts after going 3-5.

Despite back-to-back poor campaigns, Reich wouldn’t have to worry when it comes to his finances as he is owed a lot of money by Tepper despite his firing. Reich is still owed $36 million from the Panthers through 2026. This means, he will get paid $25,000 per day for three more years despite losing his job.

This is also the second straight year, the Panthers had to fire their head coach in the mid-season. Last year, Tepper fired Matt Rhule from the head coach position after his disappointing tenure.

Meanwhile, the Panthers would continue their journey without Frank Reich as their leader. They only have one win in this season so far and will likely end up with a Top 5 pick in the 2024 draft. But, it’s unfortunate since they don’t own their first-round pick in the upcoming draft.
