The Seattle Seahawks 2022/23 NFL season came to an end this weekend with a playoff defeat against the San Francisco 49ers. The Seahawks fell to a 41-23 loss against a superior 49ers outfit and even QB Geno Smith couldn’t do much about it.

However, for the Seahawks, it would be a case of a glass half full, rather than it being half empty with the side already exceeding expectations in the first place by making it into the playoffs. They finished with a 9-8 record in the regular season, as quarterback Geno Smith handled his starter quarterback role to perfection.

After the Seahawks’ undoubted starter for the last decade, Russell Wilson left before the start of the season, there were question marks about who would fulfill the role. Smith emerged as the incumbent starter after leaving behind competitor Drew Lock in the preseason games.

Smith earned himself a spot in the Pro Bowl this year after landing his first starter role since 2014. He even bettered Russell Wilson’s 7-10 record last season and is on the verge of continuing as the starter for the coming season.

Smith was on a one-year contract with the Seahawks this season and will be a free agent as the season comes to an end in a month’s time. However, if it were up to Smith himself, he would love to carry on with the Hawks until his retirement.

He made his feelings clear on the subject of his contract, as he talked about repaying the love and faith that the franchise has given him since joining them back in 2019.

“I want to finish my career in Seattle. I want to be here,” Smith said, via the team’s website. “The town, the city, the team, Coach Carroll, the organization, they all embraced me. I was a guy who probably could have been out of the league. They embraced me, and I want to repay them for that.”

Geno Smith had a 69.8 percent pass completion rate as he carried the ball for a total of 4,282 yards throughout the regular season. His passing yards were a Seahawks record and only the fifth time that a 4000 yards mark has been crossed in the franchise’s history. With all of this going for Smith, only a miracle should stop him from continuing as the starting quarterback for the Seahawks next season.
