From being “Mr. Irrelevant” to winning his first playoff game, Brock Purdy has been the greatest underdog story since 199th pick in the 2000 NFL draft named Tom Brady. It hardly looked like Purdy was playing his first playoff game.
Seattle Seahawks looked pretty strong in the first half of the game as they entered the locker room with a 17-16 lead at halftime. As the third quarter of the game started, Purdy and the 49ers burst open through the cage they were hiding in and absolutely dominated the game and registered a 41-23 win, and advanced to the divisional round.

Purdy was selected as the last pick of the 2022 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers making him the Mr. Irrelevant of the year. He was the third-string quarterback entering his rookie season but fortunately got to be the started following injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo. He took over as the starter in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins and the rest as they say is history.
He won all the remaining matches in the regular season and the 49ers had a 10-game winning streak that propelled them into the postseason. The 23-year-old didn’t seem jittery and showed zero signs of being a rookie given his stellar performance in each and every game gaining him the respect of critics and fans around the league.
Following the win against the Seattle Seahawks, Brock Purdy earned the appreciation of NBA superstar LeBron James. The 4x NBA Champion tweeted: “PURDY GOT GAME!!!!!!!!!” after the young rookie led the team to a late victory.
Brock Purdy definitely has got game. The Iowa State alum is the first rookie quarterback to start in a playoff win since Russell Wilson over a decade ago. He is also the first rookie quarterback with four touchdowns in a playoff game. Let’s see if the winning streak continues in the divisional round of the playoffs or not. If Purdy is able to win the next game, he just might be the greatest Mr. Irrelevant in league history.
