“No way he keeps the job,” Stephen A. Smith is confident that Brandon Staley will be fired after the Chargers’ epic meltdown

Brandon Staley had the worst possible game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and continues his trend to choke when it matters the most.

The Los Angeles Chargers lost the wild card matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars after a 27-0 lead in the first half of the game. Critics and fans are confounded as to how the Chargers lost to the Jaguars, a team that was literally one of the worst in the league until last year with a 27-points lead.

The Jacksonville Jaguars made the third-largest comeback in postseason history after the Buffalo Bills in 1992, and the Indianapolis Colts in 2013. Now, all eyes are stuck on the Chargers’ head coach Brandon Staley because neither Justin Herbert nor any other player on the team played horribly or gave up any points.

If the team didn’t make any mistakes, then surely the coach had to have done something wrong. A wrong call on third down, or a bad coverage on the defense, must be something because no way a team loses a 27-point lead unless, of course, you are Matt Ryan as a Falcon in Super Bowl LI and as a Colt in Week 15 against the Vikings.

Brandon Staley might be without a job next year

Last night wasn’t an isolated incident for Brandon Staley and the Chargers. Last year in the Week 18 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles choked when it mattered the most. This has been a pattern for Staley and looks like the Jaguars’ latest loss might be the final nail in the coffin for the Chargers’ head coach. ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith tweeted that he believes Bradon Staley is done in Los Angeles.

“If Coach Brandon Staley allows these @chargers to lose a 27-0 lead and lose this game to the @Jaguars, he might not even get a ride home on the team plane. Btw….Boss’s got to get it together and remind folks of who the hell he is,” Smith said in his first tweet. Smith further indicated that former Saints’ head coach Sean Payton might replace Staley next year.

The Chargers had a perfect start to the game where cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. caught three interceptions off of Trevor Lawrence. Even towards the end, the Chargers had the upper hand, and they just had to keep the run game going, waste as much time as possible and they would be sharing a victory champagne on the plane ride home.

However, Brandon Staley couldn’t even do that. The players were frustrated, and it looked like Staley had lost his control over the team when he tried to calm Joey Bosa down by handing him his helmet but Bosa went ahead and banged it into the ground on the sidelines. It might not be a stretch to say that owner Dean Spanos is already in talks with Sean Payton for the head coach position.
