The historic rise of Geno Smith with the Seahawks was one of the best storylines during the 2022 NFL season. His iconic catchphrase “I ain’t wrote back yet” was a legendary line that got him a huge fan base around the league. Well, it seems like the Seattle QB has finally found the time to write back.
The Pro Bowl QB Geno Smith just signed a 3-year deal with the Seahawks worth up to $105 million. And now, Smith has penned down an emotional letter thanking Seattle’s fanbase for believing in him even when he was just a backup to their star QB Russell Wilson. In a long letter, Smith talks about why he chose to join the Seahawks and how welcoming and accepting the Seattle community has been so far.
“I also felt grateful during those years for how our culture went beyond just our building. The support I felt from the locker room, I felt it from the city as well. I’d go out and get my morning coffee on game days, and the way I’d be treated, you’d think I was the starter. All the warmest greetings and our fans hyping me up. That’s what’s unique about this place, I think. You all care about the whole team — and about us as people. Not just the wins and losses. You actually care about being a part of the culture we’re setting,” wrote Smith.
Furthermore, the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year also opened up about the moment when he knew that Wilson will be getting traded to the Broncos and that he’ll eventually get to play a bigger role in the team.
Geno Smith wants to be an example for the people

Geno Smith continued in his letter and described how hyped he was while watching the Lions defeat the Packers in week 18 which led to the Seahawks clinching a spot in the postseason. Smith claims even though he was happy, he just never wanted to leave his team’s destiny to another team’s success.
Finally, the 9-year NFL veteran finished the letter with an emotional message about how he wants to be an example for the people that are pegged as someone who can’t achieve certain things.
“I want to be an example for anyone who might’ve gotten knocked down from their goals. Not even just in the NFL, but in life — anyone who might be feeling like a disappointment, or who might be getting pegged as someone who can’t achieve certain things. Maybe they can look at me and say, Geno … he kept grinding. He kept believing in himself. And eventually, he found a city that believes in him back,” Smith wrote in the letter.
The Seahawks signal-caller finally took the time to write back and it was a touching gesture by Geno Smith to his fans. Hopefully, the 32-year-old QB keeps his good form and delivers a Pro Bowl season again in 2023.
