It has been more than a year since the New York Giants shocked everyone by signing their quarterback Daniel Jones to a massive contract extension. At the time, everyone except the Giants organization felt like it was a massive overpay for a QB with one decent season. And now, it seems like the franchise themselves have realized their mistake.

During a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, the show host Rich Eisen claimed the Giants are absolutely done with Jones. Eisen feels like the Giants would be compelled to play Jones this season, but they are not happy about it.

The Giants are absolutely done with Daniel Jones. Done. Might have to play him this year. But that ain't it. And they feel that ain't it. The words I heard at the Combine multiple times, two words were, buyer's remorse.

Last year, the Giants tied Jones to their team for four more years with a deal worth approximately $160 million. The Giants gave a lot of money to Jones despite having to address many more needs, including a contract extension for their running back Saquon Barkley. Many felt like the Giants were making a mistake, prioritizing Jones over Barkley. Maybe they have!

They haven’t gotten any return on the investment since Jones’ 2023 campaign was cut short with a season-ending injury. Now, they are expecting him to have a better year in 2024. Nonetheless, Rich Eisen only shared the rumors he heard during the NFL Combine.

Publicly, the Giants are still backing Jones and are hoping he can prove the haters wrong. For that to happen, the New York-based football team must build a solid supporting cast around him. If Jones has a good cast around, he can really work as a good game manager and maybe justify his expensive price.

Do or die season ahead for Daniel Jones with the Giants

The Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is one of the most criticized players in the league. However, he still managed to bag a massive $160 million deal with the Giants despite having only one decent season.

In his first 4 years in the league, Jones’ best campaign came during the final year of his rookie deal. He completed 67.2% of his pass attempts for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions.

Many believe the Giants have made a huge mistake by giving Jones an expensive contract. This year, they are kind of forced to play Jones since he carries a huge price tag.

However, the Giants won’t hesitate to move on from him, if he fails to show any improvement in the 2024 season. So, Jones is entering a crucial year to prove himself as a top QB in the league.
