“Gone too soon” Former NFL TE Gavin Escobar found dead at the age of 31 after a rock climbing accident in California

Gavin Escobar had a decent run in the NFL before joining the California fire department. The 31-year-old was accompanied by 33-year-old Chelsea Walsh. Both of their bodies were found at Idyllwild, California.

The real cause of death is still unknown, though it is presumed that Gavin Escobar and Chelsea Walsh died due to a rock climbing accident.

Escobar and Walsh were supposedly trying to scale a vertical mountain called as Tahquitz Rock. There was minor rainfall in the region during that time but the authorities are not sure if that was the cause of their accident.

The California Fire Department and Riverside County Fire Department were called through a distress call at around 12 PM. The rescuers had to climb up a steep slope to rescue the deceased.

Gavin Escobar was part of the California Fire Department after he retired from the NFL in 2017. The Fire Department paid tribute to their fallen soldier by saying “It is with deep sadness that we announce the off-duty death of Long Beach Firefighter Gavin Escobar. Hired on February 5, 2022, Firefighter Escobar was assigned to Fire Station 3 on B-shift,” read a social media post from the department. “Firefighter Escobar leaves behind his wife and two young children.”
