“He deserves so much credit,” Skip Bayless questions Buccaneers firing OC Byron Leftwich despite playoff exit against the Cowboys
Find out what NFL analyst and talk show host Skip Bayless had to say about the Bucs firing OC Byron Leftwich.
Byron Leftwich and Skip Bayless
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers season ended in the NFL Wild Card Round as they fell 31-14 to the Dallas Cowboys. In what was a pretty disappointing performance in the season overall, the early exit was somewhat expected.
And it looks like head coach Todd Bowles is already making some rearrangements in preparation for the next season. And in a pretty surprising move, he has decided to fire offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich to set an example.
Byron Leftwich joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in January 2019 under the reign of head coach Bruce Arians. Moreover, five other coaches have also been fired in addition to three others decided to retire.
Skip Bayless sides with Tampa Bay Buccaneers OC Byron Leftwich
Skip Bayless is not happy with the fact that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to fire offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. According to him, Leftwich did a lot for the team and especially showed them loyalty when the Jacksonville Jaguars were ready to offer him their Head Coach position.
“Byron Leftwich was getting a ton of credit because of last season because Jacksonville were ready to offer him their head coaching job – that’s how much credit he was getting! Think about it think about it. The Jacksonville Jaguars loaded with talent, loaded with quarterbacks. Byron Leftwich was about to get that job but he pulled his name out of the running,” Bayless said in his show Undisputed alongside Shannon Sharpe.
Skip Bayless has earlier defended Byron Leftwich as well. According to him, it’s not comprehensible why Byron Leftwich was fired because the entire offense was disappointing and it can’t be because of Tom Brady since there’s less chance of him returning for the next season.
“I do not understand why this man lost his job. Unless they just decided as a group that they had to do something that somebody had to go, somebody had to pay for 8-10, which was the final record. I don’t think Tom Brady is going back there, so I don’t think this was Tom Brady’s doing, to fire him.“
“I don’t blame Byron Leftwich at all, I don’t blame Tom Brady very much at all because the offense was just in shambles compared to what it was a year ago and certainly two years ago.”
