Tyrann Mathieu plays as a strong safety for the New Orleans Saints and it’s not often that a safety appreciates another safety. Mathieu believes that Jimmie Ward is a great safety and he’s at the top of the list.
Jimmie Ward is a strong safety for the San Francisco 49ers. He’s a leader both on and off the field. Ward is also considered one of the most underrated players in the 49ers team and he’s never been selected in the Pro Bowl or named as an All-Pro.
Though now he is being recognized by his peers and it’s about time that people find out about Jimmie Ward. The 31-year-old safety was also selected in the NFL top 100 list, he reserved the 96th spot for himself.
“After eight seasons in the league, the underrated Ward makes his debut in the Top 100,” wrote NFL.com. “The veteran defensive back did not allow any receiver to reach 50 yards in a game against him last season.”
“The Northern Illinois product also had a career-high 77 tackles. Ward is a strong tackler, reliable run-defender, extremely versatile and is elite in coverage. He is one of the top players at his position, even if he doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves.”

Jimmie Ward stated a long time ago that he doesn’t the respect he feels he deserves. But now, things are changing as players like Tyler are coming out and appreciating the safety of all his efforts.
Ward was drafted in 2014 and he managed to complete 77 tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 touchdown in 16 starts for the 49ers. Ward expressed his concern about Derwin James getting all the praise.
“When I look at the news, when I look at ESPN and all the posts, I see people talking about … they give the credit to Derwin James,” Ward said last week. “‘Oh, Derwin James, he can cover this guy, this guy, and that guy.’ But I’m like, ‘Man, I’ve only seen Derwin James covering Keenan Allen.“
We can’t say for sure if Jimmie Ward is a better safety than Derwin James, but what we know is that Ward is a quality safety who deserves his spot in the NFL top 100.
