“I strongly disagree” Stephen Ross owner of Miami Dolphins is not satisfied with NFL’ verdict against him

Stephen Ross

The NFL decided on Tuesday to suspend Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and cancel the team’s two draft picks for the years 2023 and 2024. This decision was made regarding tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton. Ross is fined $1.5 million and is suspended for six games until October 17.

Stephen Ross was not happy with the decision and expressed it through the team’s statement. “With regards to tampering, I strongly disagree with the conclusions and the punishment,” Ross said in a statement posted on the Miami Dolphins Twitter account. “However, I will accept the outcome because the most important thing is that there be no distractions for our team as we begin an exciting and winning season. I will not allow anything to get in the way of that.”

The six-month-long investigation found that the Dolphins had ‘impermissible communications’ with Tom Brady in 2019 and 2021. They were in contact with him when he was under contract for another team. The Dolphins were also in contact with the Orleans coach Sean Payton.

In February, Flores told CNN that Ross explicitly told him he would give him $100,000 for each game Flores would lose. Ross denied the accusations at the time, calling the claims “baseless, unfair and disparaging.”

“However phrased, such a comment was not intended or taken to be a serious offer, nor was the subject pursued in any respect by Mr. Ross or anyone else at the club,” NFL news release states.

The investigation conducted by the NFL examined whether the Dolphins intentionally lost games in 2019 and 2021 to improve their draft positions, this is also called ‘Tanking’. They later found out that the team did not lose games intentionally as they ended their season with a 5-11 record and earned the fifth pick in the 2020 draft.

Stephan Ross is currently not allowed in the Dolphins facility until he completes his suspension, this includes games, meetings, trainings and other discussions.
