“A Chance To Be A Really Good Player”, NFL Icon Troy Aikman Makes Huge Remark On Budding Jets QB
NFL icon, Troy Aikman has broken the silence about one of the budding sensations of the NFL roster, Zach Wilson. Wilson was drafted second overall in the latest edition of the draft by the New York Jets and Troy has every reason to believe that Wilson will be replicating his success in the preceding year for the Dallas Cowboys.
Wilson failed to impress in his opening year with the Jets but had a string of scintillating glimpses gracing his efforts for the team. His initial numbers were questionable that read 3-10 while belting 9 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. Despite a slow start, he recovered well as he didn’t throw a single interception in his last five games.
Here is what Troy Aikman had to say about Zach Wilson and Big Ben
Well, understanding the ideal pain of struggling in the rookie season, Troy Aikman lent his support to the budding Jets QB. As a starter, Aikman found himself in the midst of woeful figures that read 0-11 while throwing 9 touchdowns to 18 interceptions.
Talking to ESPN, Aikman found similarities between him and Wilson and was heard quoting, “I struggled as much as any [rookie quarterback] in the history of the game. I like Zach Wilson a lot. From what I saw of him, I liked him a lot. I expected maybe not to see him struggle as much as he did last year, but I think he’s got a chance to be a really good player”
He also highlighted that unlike back in his days, younger quarterbacks are being hired for shorter terms considering their all-around prowess. He underlined the case of Big Ben as a typical example of the modernization of the game.
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback then went on to speak about Ben Roethlisberger. he said, “We don’t give these guys much of a grace period anymore. I don’t know that that’s necessarily a good thing or a bad thing. I think expectations have changed so much because of some of the success we’ve seen from some of these rookie quarterbacks, not only in the last few years. It goes back to a guy like Ben Roethlisberger and what he was able to do.”
Aikman also spared a thought for Wilson after the latter suffered a knee injury in the pre-season but he was absolutely clear about the fact that the big man will have to take things slow if he has to succeed.
