Despite speculation about missing Sunday’s clash against the Cincinnati Bengals due to being on the concussion protocol, Brock Purdy attended Friday’s practice session. He was absent from the San Francisco 49ers facility the previous training day.
Purdy has had a noteworthy start to the season, going unbeaten in 49ers initial matches. But back-to-back losses once again raised questions regarding his credentials as a good NFL quarterback. But that discussion has taken a back seat because of an apparent knock to the head the 23-year-old suffered during the Cleveland Browns game.
While the 49ers staff did not pick up on his discomfort on the field, it showed up on the way back to the Bay Area. Without wasting any seconds, they decided to put Purdy on the concussion protocol.
The San Francisco 49ers began their preparation for Sunday’s game, but their QB1 only took part in a portion of a walkthrough. The next day had limited runouts. But to everyone’s surprise, he participated in full practice on Friday.
Can Brock Purdy clear the concussion protocol in time for the Bengals game?
Officially, Brock Purdy is listed as questionable for the Cincinnati Bengals game. However, he is reportedly pushing himself to get a clearance before Sunday Night Football. It means the doctors will check him out and provide the final call on whether he will receive the green signal.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said:
That's the last thing he's got to do. Just one step left. He's just got to pass that tomorrow.
The final step is getting physical clearance from the Niners’ team physician and being examined by an independent neurological consultant. If the consultant agrees, then Purdy will be eligible to face Cincinnati.
If he fails to pass the test, then backup quarterback Sam Darnold is ready to take his place. He revealed that Purdy had a couple of snaps this week with the regulars.
He's been great, as he normally is. He's preparing really well and looking really good.Darnold told ESPN.com
Darnold is no stranger to big games. The former first-round pick has been around for a few seasons and has played in crucial ties. The Bengals game will be a litmus taste because of the sudden dip in results for the Niners. But it will be the 26-year-old’s first start since last year.
Darnold added:
I've just got to be ready to go in there whenever. I am ready to go whenever my number is called.
