The Kansas City Chiefs are just too good and most of the credit goes to the duo of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. The former Texas Tech quarterback has now led his team to five straight AFC Championships matching Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers records, which they did in 17 and 18 seasons, respectively.
Between 1994-2017, the Chiefs had a 1-10 playoff record with zero conference championship appearances which was one of the worst records in the league, and ever since Mahomes has taken over in 2018, they have made the AFC Championship all five times with two Super Bowl trips and one Lombardi.
Kansas City was defeated last year by Joe Burrow and the Bengals in a thriller game that went into overtime and kicker Evan McPherson kicked the field goal to send Cincinnati to their third Super Bowl.

The Chiefs had a scare when Super Bowl LIV MVP Patrick Mahomes suffered a high-ankle injury during the divisional playoffs game against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. He has practiced the entire week and even said that he’s ready to play, but there still isn’t any official statement from the team about his status on Sunday. However, another news has caused trouble in Kansas City’s camp.
One of the best tight ends in the league, Travis Kelce, is now added to the practice report on Friday with a back injury. Kelce also had a full practice week, but now he is questionable to play the AFC Championship game. The 33-year-old star tight end is the favorite target of Mahomes after wide receiver Tyreek Hill shifted to the Miami Dolphins.
During last week’s game against the Jaguars, Kelce had 14 receptions for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Travis Kelce has 1338 receiving yards this season – his second best and led the league among tight ends. Kelce is also a double threat for the defense because of his blocking ability, which makes him the best in the business. With him being questionable, the Chiefs are really in a twist as receivers Mecole Hardman and Justin Watson are questionable with a pelvis injury and illness, respectively.
The Cincinnati Bengals beat the Chiefs when they were at their 100 percent last year so they probably won’t even break a sweat with Mahomes and Kelce possibly out of the game. So it will be very crucial for the Kansas-based franchise for both of them to be active against the Bengals.
