“I’ve never liked him”: 49ers QB Trey Lance gets mercilessly trolled by former HC Mike Martz for his ABYSMAL performance against the Bears

Mike Martz is always known for his open demeanour and brutal comments. After Trey Lance’s below-par performance against the Bears this weekend, the 49ers QB had it coming.

Martz didn’t hold back and confessed that he never liked Trey Lance in the first place and after his performance he still won’t like him. “I want [49ers coaches’] eyeballs here,” Martz said. “I’ve never seen anything about this kid that was encouraging at all.”

“He’s not particularly a good guy running with the football — and based on what I saw today, I mean, he missed two guys completely by themselves.”

Mike Martz assessed that Trey Lance doesn’t have the skills required to play in the NFL and also remanded that the 22-year-old QB is lazy on the ball. Martz also criticized Lance for his throwing motion, his decision making and his running ability. Basically, according to Martz, there’s nothing good about Trey Lance.

Trey Lance is young and will only get better

Trey Lance

Mike Martz believes that Trey Lance displayed his worst performance to date and he’ll only get better from here. Lance completed only 13 of his 28 passes, though it was argued that the playing conditions were not ideal, that didn’t stop the Bears QB Justin Fields from throwing 2 touchdowns.

“I know this,” the former coach said, “he can only go up. He can only get better because you can’t get any worse than what he did today.”

Trey Lance was declared as the starter for the 49ers this season ahead of veteran Jimmy Garoppolo by head coach Kyle Shanahan. There’s also pressure on Trey Lance to perform better otherwise he may lose his starting spot to Jimmy G.

Trey Lance had a truly disappointing first game but it can all be forgotten if the QB performs better in hist next game against the Seattle Seahawks at home.
