The January 6th, 2021 attacks on the Capitol building in Washington is now one of the darkest days in the history of the American polity, a large crowd of people, the majority of which are Trump supporters stormed the building and violently entered it by force destroying all that stood in their way. One security guard lost his life during these riots. The US Congress is currently conducting hearings on this attempted coup to destroy the working of the American government. While these hearings are going on NFL Defensive Coordinator for the Washington Commanders Jack Del Rio has been thrown in the limelight for his recent comments on the situation.

Del Rio has largely been criticized for brushing the coup attempt as a minor ‘dust up‘ but he has also attracted the support of many parties for his brutal honesty. The Defensive coordinator is being demonized for speaking his mind and the argument that he makes behind the Jan 6 massacre being blown out of proportion is valid.

“Jack Del Rio is RIGHT, and THAT is why they are trashing him,” NFL Twitter stands by the Commanders DC’s comments:

Many believe that Jack Del Rio does not deserve to be fined for his comments

The DC had to delete his official Twitter account after he began to receive a lot of negative responses to his comments. He was also fined by the Commanders for his comments, he had to shell out $100,000 for this. Del Rio stated that, “Why are we not looking into those things? Because it’s kind of hard for me to say I can realistically look at it, I see the images on TV, people’s livelihoods are being destroyed, businesses are being burned down-no problem. Then we have a dustup at the Capitol, nothing burned down and we’re gonna make that a major deal. I just think it’s kind of two standards.”

He also tweeted that those involved in violent protests following the murder of George Floyd should also be investigated in the same way that those who attacked the Capitol are being looked into. Though the Defensive Coordinator was criticized by all for his comments, from the top media outlets in the nation to even the Commander’s organization not standing by him, the majority of the citizens agree with what he said and stand by his comments.

The coach is being attacked by the woke media for his genuine comments when it comes to the double standard of violent protests, he is being trashed for speaking the bitter truth, the version that nobody wants to hear. Supporters of former President Donald Trump also expressed their support for the coach.

By no means is Del Rio just another defensive coordinator, he is a future first-ballot Hall of Fame coach. The Washington Commanders organization did not have his back as they feared outbursts from the community, HC Ron Rivera said that Del Rio’s comments “do not reflect the organization’s views and are extremely hurtful to our great community here in the DMV. As we saw last night in the hearings, what happened in the Capitol on January 6, 2021, was an act of domestic terrorism. Words have consequences and his words hurt a lot of people in our community.”

Due to these mixed responses and professional obligations, Del Rio was compelled to issue an apology later on Twitter,

The Washington Commanders stated that all proceeds from the fine amount will be donated to the US Capitol Police Memorial Fund as per USA Today. Though this is a noble gesture by the organization, it would have been better if they had the back of their staff, especially when they speak the truth.
