On Friday, Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins went against their AFC East division rivals New York Jets in the first-ever Black Friday game. During the crucial week 12 division matchup, the Dolphins ended up winning the game, but they suffered a huge blow in the process as their star pass rusher Jaelan Phillips went down with a non-contact Achilles injury.
During the fourth quarter of the game, when the Dolphins were leading by 21 points, Phillips appeared to have popped his Achilles in a non-contact play. He went down on the field with the injury and had to be carted off the field. The entire Dolphins players and coaching staff stood around Phillips as he was being loaded in the cart.
In the slow-motion reply, it seemed like Phillips popped his Achilles as he got off his position during a play. He seemingly suffered the injury when he planted his legs on the MetLife field to take off for a pass rush. Phillips is the latest player to suffer a serious injury in the turf field of the MetLife Stadium.
He joins a long list of players, including the Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers to suffer an injury while playing on the turf field. Following the game, the Dolphins defensive back Jevon Holland called the field trash while his teammate Raheem Mostert advocated for something to be done about the dangerous turf fields at the MetLife Stadium.
Jaelan Phillips is one of the best defensive players on the Miami-based football team. He is tied for the team lead with 6.5 sacks despite missing 3 games in the ongoing NFL season. Without Phillips, the Dolphins’ defensive line might not be the same and could end up struggling in their upcoming games.
Social media reacts to Jaelan Phillips’ injury
NFL fans on social media were unhappy to see another non-contact injury in the league as the Dolphins pass rusher seemingly tore his Achilles during their Black Friday game against the NY Jets. Fans called for something to be done about the turf fields, seemingly causing serious injuries. Check out some of the reactions attached below.

On the sporting side of things, the Dolphins ended up dominating the Jets on Friday and managed to secure a massive 34-13 victory. With that victory, they improved to a solid 8-3 record and are currently sitting at the top of the AFC East division. Next, they are scheduled to face the Washington Commanders in their week 13 matchup.
