“How can you work with someone like that?”: Jaguars owner Shad Khan lashes out at Urban Meyer, lists a number of reasons for firing him
Shad Khan and Urban Meyer
When Urban Meyer came into the NFL, a lot of people opined that he might not be able to deliver at the biggest stage and one has to admit that they were right. His stint with the Jaguars came to an end after a short period and no one was actually surprised.
Meyer was the Jaguars’ head coach for 13 games and his team had a record of 2-11 by the time he was done with them. In his defense, there wasn’t too much quality on the roster but his presence surely didn’t help as well. Moreover, his love affair with controversies did do any good to him or the franchise.
“It wasn’t about wins or losses”: Shad Khan on firing Urban Meyer
A while back, Urban Meyer was seen at a bar dancing with a woman who wasn’t his wife. After that, reports of Meyer kicking Josh Lambo surfaced. After that, a report by ‘The Athletic’ showed just how bad Urban Meyer was and how toxic the environment in Jacksonville truly was and after that, Meyer claimed he had no idea who Aaron Donald was.
After all this, it was evident that the franchise will ask him to pack his bags and leave which is exactly what transpired. Recently, in interaction with USA Today Sports, Jacksonville owner Shad Khan talked in detail about why the franchise had to fire Meyer.
“When you lose the respect, the trust, and an issue of truthfulness, how can you work with someone like that? It’s not possible,” Khan said, adding that it wasn’t actually about winning or losing. “I think when you know someone is not truthful, how can you be around someone,” he claimed.
“We had Doug Marrone here four years. We had Gus Bradley here four years. I have nothing but the utmost respect and friendship with them. That’s why they got the time, because it wasn’t a matter about respect or truth. It was a matter of wins and losses over four years. This is much bigger than that,” Shad further added.
