“We have six f**king minutes,” Jennifer Lopez slams NFL for lack of performance time with Shakira during Super Bowl 2020 Halftime show
The Super Bowl is one of the most prestigious events, with fans worldwide following it. The marquee event serves as the annual playoff championship in the NFL, with the two best teams from the AFC and the NFC teams competing.
Every year, the NFL makes it a point to put up a spectacle for fans all over the world, as is the trend with final matches in most sports. One of the major attractions during the Super Bowl clash apart from the football is the Halftime show, wherein the league invites special performances from popular show stoppers.
The halftime Super Bowl 2020 show was co-headlined by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez
The Super Bowl 2020 halftime show was co-headlined by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, in a move which raised eyebrows to have two headliners for the event. The latter had resisted the NFL’s decision to bring in two headliners and later went on to criticise the decision, as revealed in the upcoming Netflix documentary Halftime, which premiered on Wednesday.
Jennifer Lopez said, “We have six f*cking minutes. We have 30 seconds of a song, and if we take a minute, that’s it, we’ve got five left. But, there’s got to be certain songs that we sing, though. We have to have our singing moments. It’s not going to be a dance f—ing revue. We have to sing our message. This is the worst idea in the world to have two people do the Super Bowl. It was the worst idea in the world.”
Lopez was pretty spot on in her criticism of the NFL, given that during previous Super Bowl Halftime shows, the performers generally had more time to woo the crowd over. However, with both Shakira and Lopez being given the co-headliner roles, they had to cut short the individual timings, to incorporate them together.
The 2020 Super Bowl saw the Kansas City Chiefs take home the title, as they defeated the San Francisco 49ers by a margin of 31-20 to win just their second-ever title.
