“I get to make that decision”: Jerry Jones reveals why Jimmy Johnson is not in the Cowboys Ring of Honor

Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones
The last time the Dallas Cowboys won the Super Bowl was nearly 3 decades ago, along with the team’s victory, there is a feud that began at the same time and it still burns bright to date. The feud between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and former HC Jimmy Johnson is something that never seems to get old. It is either the owner bringing the argument to the limelight or a question that he gets asked by the media that brings it back.
Once again Jerry Jones brought the argument back to life when in an interview he mentioned the rationale behind Jimmy Johnson remaining out of the Cowboys Ring of Honor despite being the most accomplished coach in the team’s history. At an interview in Oxnard, at the team’s training camp, Jones did not like the question he was asked by Newy Scruggs of NBC 5 DFW.

Jerry Jones called Jimmy Johnson an extremely emotional person who still carries a grudge against him

Jones did not like the tone in which the question was asked, we all know the owner loves to be in the spotlight only when there is something positive circulating about him, god forbid if the news paints him in a negative limelight, then Jones will do everything in his power to stick it back to that person.
Newy Scruggs told Jones that “it seems very petty” not having inducted Jimmy Johnson into the team’s Ring of Honor. The owner responded in a rather dominating tone, “I get to make that decision. It isn’t, at the end of the day, all tailored around whether Jimmy is sniveling or not.”
The Cowboys owner did not appreciate being called petty in this situation but in all fairness, it is about time that he induct Johnson into the team’s Ring of Fame. Let’s be real, if not for pettiness, what else is it about? If Jimmy were to be the coach of any other team or let’s say there was a different owner without any personal vendetta against Johnson, this would not be a conversation as the coach would already be in the Ring of Fame.
Nearly every player on the Super Bowl-winning squad of the team from QB Troy Aikman, TO RB Emmitt Smith, WR Michael Irvin, Charles Halye, and Darren Woodson have all been inducted into the Ring. To add salt to Jimmy’s wounds, Larry Allen, who came after Jimmy’s era has also been added to the Ring.
Very soon, we will all see Jason Witten, DeMarcus Ware, Tony Romo, and others inducted into the Ring as well. Despite the animosity between Jones and Johnson, time has done its part and seemed to have reduced the issues between the two as the two were sitting next to one another a year ago during the HoF ceremony in Canton.
It seems unfair to make Johnson wait this much as he is a big reason as to why the Dallas Cowboys were able to remain as ‘America’s team,’ he helped build the fanbase and coached the team in one of its most prosperous eras. We really hope to see Johnson in the Ring of Fame soon and hopefully, Jerry Jones is standing next to him on the dais when it does happen.
