“Don’t F*** with me” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirms using derogatory language against Patriots owner Robert Kraft in NFL’s owner’s meeting
Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft are two of the league’s most influential NFL team owners, as they both own Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots, respectively. Therefore, when things escalated between them in an owner-only meeting, they went viral immediately.
The escalation started when Jerry Jones told Robert Kraft, “don’t f*** with me” when they had a disagreement about the NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell. Kraft replied by saying “excuse me?” and Jones double down on the Patriots owner by saying “don’t mess with me”. This time, Jones didn’t use derogatory language.
The whole incident was leaked by the media and soon went viral. The Cowboys owner was asked about the incident in his scheduled Friday interview with Dallas Radio Station 105.3 The Fan.
“You express yourself with people you know and people you’re around a lot … in different ways,” Jerry Jones stated “I would say that in this particular case, it’s probably accurate that I did express myself in probably a way that’s not in good taste.”
Jones did not apologize for his language or his behavior towards the Patriots owner when he explained the situation and confessed to using vile and derogatory language.
Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft got into a disagreement over NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s new contract extension
Jerry Jones was not surprised when he found out that the conversation had been leaked to the media, as it’s highly probable that even in a room full of team owners, someone can leak things.
“I’ve just gotten used to the fact that when you’re saying something, it’s highly likely it could be being recorded or it could be being heard and will be repeated,” Jerry Jones said in response to the incident leaking in the media. “In a meeting that you would think would really have a lot of real exclusivity or protection so you could really express your feelings — it’s not surprising to me that it would get out.”
The NFL’s owner’s only meeting was scheduled to discuss the contract extension of commissioner Roger Goodell, while everyone voted unanimously to keep Goodell for a few more years. Jerry Jones had a different opinion.
Jones later clarified that he has no problem with Roger Goodell and he was probably the first one to nominate his name for a potential contract extension. Although the Cowboys owner had an issue with the structure of the league going forward and didn’t believe in the new plans and structure.
This was the reason that created a misunderstanding between the Patriots and Cowboys owners, but now it seems like everything is smooth-sailing for Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft.
