The recent departure of Bill Belichick as the head coach of the New England Patriots after 24 seasons with the team has raised many questions regarding his future. 

While Belichick has not commented about the future and what it holds for him in terms of coaching, the notion around league circles is that he is not walking away from coaching itself. If a lucrative opportunity arises, he is likely to consider it.

There would be no opportunity more lucrative than coaching the Dallas Cowboys. And it so happens that Jerry Jones is not against the possibility of having the greatest coach of all time lead his team.

As per Tony Pauline, Jones is entertaining the thought of hiring Belichick depending on how the team’s season plays out.

The Dallas Cowboys have the best record in the NFC East, and this season, the team is playing at an elite level, but as history has shown, the Cowboys play great, but when their season is on the line and they need to show up, they falter and come up short.

If this time isn’t any different, Jerry Jones may be compelled to make yet another switch at head coach.

Jerry Jones’ decision will remain contingent upon how the Cowboys perform in the playoffs

Mike McCarthy was Jones’ preference because he had experience winning a Super Bowl. Bill Belichick was never available, but now that he is, Jones would not flinch if there was some interest shown by the former Patriots’ HC to lead America’s team.

Defensively, Dallas is already a powerhouse. Now imagine what Bill Belichick, a coach who is idolized and revered for his defensive playbook, can do when he has the most elite players in the NFL. The Cowboys will be untouchable defensively. 

On offense too, Belichick can do so much with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

However, in order for this to happen, the Cowboys will have to come up short yet again. For the first time in over two decades, the team has a real shot at winning the Super Bowl. If they come up short yet again, it will raise a lot of eyebrows regarding Mike McCarthy’s coaching abilities.

Jones has been reluctant to comment on McCarthy’s future as the Cowboys HC if he fails this season, which is why it is not outside the realm of possibility to see Bill Belichick with the Dallas Cowboys.
