The Dallas Cowboys sit on 4 wins and 2 losses after 6 games, and owner Jerry Jones is content with where they are. In a recent interview, Jones claimed he would not change anything and is eagerly waiting for the bye week to end.
Before the 2023 season began, the expectations surrounding the Dallas franchise were off the charts. The onus on the players was to do one better than the previous two that ended in exits in the playoffs. More importantly, most of the squad was intact, besides a few minor changes. Key rookies were added to provide more depth in thin areas.
They started off well, dropping 40 unanswered points against a New York Giants team that was missing the likes of Saquon Barkley. Followed by a dominating performance against the Aaron Rodgers-less Jets. A minor hiccup against the Cardinals did not matter much, but the beating against the San Francisco 49ers was not on the cards.
At Levi’s Stadium, the Cowboys’ offense was nullified by Trent Williams and Fred Warner. Quarterback Dak Prescott arguably had his worst outing of the season, throwing three interceptions. This ‘humbling‘ pointed out the deficiency in the Dallas midfield. But a hard-fought 20-17 win in Los Angeles against the Rams restored some pride to Arlington.
It’s not the ideal world that Jerry Jones envisioned in the offseason when he claimed that they meant business. But almost a quarter way into the regular period, the 81-year-old revealed in a recent appearance on 105.3 The Fan Radio that he is at peace with the situation they are in.
I’d give it a good grade, a really good grade --I wouldn’t want to start over again this year. I like where we are at 4-2.Jerry Jones via 105.3 The Fan Radio.
Does Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy have a healthy relationship with owner Jerry Jones?
Being linked with the ‘America’s Team’ the Dallas Cowboys comes with perks. Not only that, but with it comes intense scrutiny and the pressure to perform week after week. When Mike McCarthy took the Cowboys job in 2020, he was aware of all of those criteria. On top of that, he came to work under a demanding boss who had not seen his team lift the Super Bowl for three decades.
McCarthy believes that extra input from ownership comes with the territory when you sign on. Jerry Jones is not the sort of individual to mince his words. For some coaches, that might seem a bit intimidating. During an appearance on Wednesday on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio, as per NBC Sports Mike Florio, McCarthy revealed how Jones operates.
Every job has a little bit of a different job description and job responsibility. My communication with Jerry; [we] talk through things. Jerry asks all the right questions. And I think it makes everybody better.
It does sound like a healthy relationship. But sooner rather than later, Jones would want to see some sort of improvement from the previous years.
