The New York Jets are looking to buy the recently released Dalvin Cook, and head coach Robert Saleh responded that the Jets will “turn the stones over” to buy the former Minnesota Vikings running back.

However, he also confided that the last decision remains with general manager Joe Douglas. “Obviously, we (the Jets) will turn the stones over on that one, but again, that would probably be more of a Joe question. I’m not sure how the money works on that.”

Dalvin’s six-year relationship came to an end with the Vikings, and they saved around $9 million in cap space as they released him after June 1. Cook is now free to negotiate, and it’s fair to say he has several suitors.

Aside from the Jets, the four-time pro bowler has offers from the Broncos and the Dolphins. Even though WRs don’t take that much space in the franchise’s salary cap Dalvin Cook won’t be a cheap buy considering his elite numbers.

Cook made it to the Pro Bowl each of the last four seasons. He was the only player during that time in the NFL to rush for 1,110 or more yards in four consecutive seasons. Since the beginning of 2019, Cook has had the third-most rushing yards (5,024). Furthermore, he is in the second spot for rushing touchdowns (43) and has the second most rushing touchdowns (258).

Minnesota coach Kevin O’Connell only had high praise for his former captain. “I hold Dalvin in the highest regard,” O’Connell said. “I am grateful for his contributions on and off the field.”

Cook ended his Vikings career with 5,993 rushing yards and 47 touchdowns.

Can Dalvin Cook improve the Jets alongside Aaron Rodgers?

The Jets signing the 27-year-old free agent will be something of a coup for the franchise, as they earlier signed a certain Aaron Rodgers. The former Packers star joined the New York-based franchise looking for a new challenge.

Seeing both Dalvin Cook and Aaron Rodgers line up side by side in MetLife Stadium will be every Jets fan’s wildest dream. However, Joe Douglas needs to plan his next move carefully based on how much he wants to spend.

Cook’s joining the Jets means they keep him away from rivals the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, who are in hot pursuit of the two-time first-team All-ACC. Being a Miami native, many are speculating that Cook will choose his hometown over any other franchise.

Even if the Jets fail to land Cook, they have backups ready. The 2022 second-round pick, Breece Hall, excelled with 463 rushing yards and four touchdowns with 218 receiving yards last season. He almost became a contender for Rookie of the Year, but a torn ACL stopped him from finishing the season. Hall will likely be back and have something to prove.
