The Buckeyes finally reunited. The fans cheered as former Ohio State players Garrett Wilson, and C.J. Stroud reunited ahead of their week 14 game of New York Jets vs Houston Texans. However, this time, the ex-teammates are faced off against each other, knowing each other’s positive as well as negative points. The question is, who among the two would lead his team to their big win?
Before entering the NFL, Wilson and Stroud were together at the Ohio State 2021 season, when the team produced an 11-2 season. Quarterback Stroud joined the Buckeyes after Justin Fields got drafted into the NFL.
The two, together showed amazing chemistry, as the young Stroud recorded throwing more than 4,400 yards and 44 touchdowns in the 12 games of the season. While wide receiver Wilson logged catches for 1.068 yards along with 12 scores. They parted ways, when Wilson got drafted last season in 2022 as the 10th overall pick, and Stroud got drafted as the 2nd overall pick this season.
After that season in the college football game, the quarterback-wide receiver duo finally got reunited at MetLife Stadium, where they were seen hugging each other and chit-chatting before the game began.
As for their week 14 matchup, quarterback Stroud has turned out exceptionally well this season, leading his team to a 7-5 standings. On the other hand, the Jets at 4-8, suffered quite a lot this season due to star QB Aaron Rodgers‘ severe Achilles injury that has kept him out for most of the season. Although the Texans are clearing favorites against the Jets, head coach DeMeco Ryans claimed he isn’t going to overlook the opponent, New York, despite their record.
Garrett Wilson isn’t surprised by his former teammate C.J. Stroud’s exceptional outings
Quarterback Stroud, the No. 2 overall draft pick, has outplayed Carolina Panthers’ Bryce Young, who was the top pick and successfully put himself in the MVP conversation, in his rookie year. Stroud surprised many when he recorded a league-high 3,450 passing yards and 20 touchdowns, along with five interceptions for a 101.2 passer rating.
However, when asked by his former Ohio State teammate, Wilson about Stroud’s exceptional performance, the wide receiver claimed he wasn’t surprised at all. He said:
No surprises there. He goes about things the right way.
After the Jets’ practice session on Friday, Wilson was asked about his former teammate, and he said:
He’s a Buckeye, and we have a process while you’re at Ohio State of being detailed and just the way that translates to this level. I think you’re seeing that with C.J. He’s a special player and a special person.
He appreciated quarterback Stroud for the way he commands his team and claimed that it was just the start.
