Turf fields have been causing many injuries for years now. Many NFL players have been openly speaking out against the use of turf fields in the league. And now, the Miami Dolphins pass rusher Jaelan Phillips suffering a non-contact Achilles injury has reignited the debate against the turf fields. Phillips’ teammate Jevon Holland didn’t mince his words on his thoughts about people getting injured on turf fields.
Since I’ve been in the league, I’ve heard the field is trash. I don’t know the statistics or anything like that, but I do know turf does increase the chances of getting hurt.Holland said via The Miami Herald.
Jalen Phillips suffered a non-contact Achilles injury during the 4th quarter of the week 12 game between the Dolphins and the New York Jets. Philips seemingly popped his Achilles while he planted his leg on the MetLife field during his pass rush attempt. The Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel said that Phillips likely suffered a torn Achilles, but he will wait for the confirmation from the MRI scan for further decision.
Apart from Jevon Holland, Miami’s running back Raheem Mostert also called for something to be done about MetLife’s turf field. Phillips joined the long list of players to have suffered a serious non-contact injury while playing on a turf field. Earlier this season, the Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers also suffered a similar kind of injury.
Nonetheless, Jalen Phillips — who has been one of the best players in the Dolphins unit — might end up missing the rest of the season because of his injury. He is currently tied for the team lead with 6.5 sacks despite missing 3 games in the ongoing season. Losing him will be a big blow for the Miami-based football team.
Jevon Holland talks about Jaelan Phillips’ injury
Following Jaelan Phillips’ potential season-ending injury, the Dolphins defensive back Jevon Holland talked about how the team will miss the services of the star pass rusher. But, he vowed to keep fighting for him.

He's everything to us. . . We value each and everyone of us, we're all a piece of the puzzle. So, we're gonna rally around him as I think everybody in the team is going and we're gonna keep him around, make sure that he knows he's loved and he's missed but we’re going to go out there and ball for him. That's even more motivation to go out there and do what we gotta do.Phillips said during the postgame interview.
Nonetheless, the Dolphins currently have a solid record of 8 wins and 3 losses. Next, they are scheduled to face the Washington Commanders in a tough road in their week 13 matchup.
