Jimmy Garappolo becomes the highest paid back-up QB
Jimmy Garoppolo’s days in the Bay were believed to be numbered since the time the 49ers decided to trade up to draft Trey Lance with the 3rd overall pick in last year’s draft. Despite leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance and a good record starting Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been on the receiving end of some severe criticism. Garoppolo has been on the trading block for quite some time.
Since the end of last season, Garoppolo was expected to be released or traded by any day but when the San Fransisco 49ers gave Garoppolo a contract extension, many 49ers faithful and Jimmy Garoppolo fans were frustrated and took to Twitter to vent. The quarterback had been called untradable by some as very few teams were willing to pay the previous contract’s $24.2 million non-guaranteed base salary.
Garoppolo’s new contract guarantees a fully guaranteed base salary of $6.5 million with $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses and another $8.45 million in-play incentives that might make him easier to trade.

The new contract also has a no-trade clause and a no-tag clause which gives Garoppolo some say in his future. The 30-year-old will now be backing up Trey Lance for the foreseeable future. Jimmy Garoppolo was originally drafted by the New England Patriots with the 62nd pick in the 2nd round. There he became a 2-time Super Bowl Champion as a backup.

Another thing Twitter was talking about is a 49ers Superfan who had promised to draw pictures of Garoppolo till he was traded from the 49ers and had been doing so for 208 days the world was curious about her plans following the extension-
Some 49ers faithful are hoping that Jimmy G becoming their backup QB might lead them to a Superbowl victory just like it happened for the Patriots of course the Patriots having the GOAT as their QB1 and the almighty Bill Belichick as their Head Coach might also have something to do with their wins. For now, Jimmy G in spite of all his talents remains a backup QB either waiting for a trade or an opportunity to play.
