Joe Burrow being carted off just a day after Justin Herbert signed the richest contract in NFL history might not be ideal for the Bengals QB, admits Adam Schefter

Joe Burrow suffered a calf sprain while taking part in the Cincinnati Bengals training camp, giving the franchise a major scare ahead of the 2023/24 NFL season. Although the seriousness of his injury is not known yet, NFL insider Adam Schefter believes that the timing of this injury couldn’t be any worse.
Schefter argued that this is more due to how Los Angeles Chargers made their quarterback Justin Herbert the highest-paid player in the NFL. Herbert signed a five-year contract extension worth a whopping $262.5 million, which Schefter feels will have an impact on the extension Burrow receives.
Appearing on the GetUp show, Schefter said Joe Burrow’s calf injury might also imply that he won’t feature in the training camp any more this offseason. Burrow is currently in the final year of his rookie contract and a new contract is just around the corner for the premier quarterback.
Joe Burrow is in line to become the highest-paid player in NFL history according to Adam Schefter
“He goes down yesterday, gets carted off the field and anytime one of the best players in football is carted off, it’s cause for alarm. It’s cause for even more alarm considering that one day before Justin Herbert signed the richest contract in NFL history, Joe Burrow is tracking to beat that contract,” Schefter said.
The NFL insider also highlighted the importance, Burrow’s agent, Brian Ayrault holds at the moment. Ayrault had a huge impact on getting a new contract for San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa who did not attend training camp at all.
“Joe Burrow’s agent has already kept Nick Bosa out of the 49ers camp. He didn’t even report until he has a new contract. So considering the injury, considering the contractual situation, there’s a real chance that we will not see Joe Burrow back on the practice field again until he has a new contract that makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history.”
Joe Burrow however dismissed concerns about wanting to sign a contract extension as soon as possible a day before his injury. The 26-year-old claimed that he wasn’t in any rush at all, despite his compatriots signing record-breaking contract extensions this offseason.
