“We are not there yet, but…” John Lynch gives a major update on Deebo Samuel extension
Deebo Samuel
Deebo Samuel, the versatile offensive weapon for the San Francisco 49ers has reported to training camp, which is good news for 49ers faithful hoping for Samuel and 49ers to come to an agreement for a long term extension.
The 36th pick in 2019 Draft, Samuel enters the final year of his rookie contract which will pay him $3.936 million in base salary. Samuel a 1st team All Pro is an important part of the 49ers offence catching 77 passes for 1,405 yards and 6touchdowns last season while adding 365 rushing yards and 8 rushing TDs.
General Manager John Lynch “excited about moving forward with him as part of this team”
Samuel who requested a trade earlier this year but the 49ers were not ready to move him, have since then tried to convince the star wideout to continue plying his trade in the Bay area. John Lynch the 49ers GM said Tuesday that he’s optimistic an extension can get done soon. Samuel who has not been happy with his usage even had a good discussion about the same with head coach Kyle Shanahan according to Shanahan. “We’re on the same page with it,” Shanahan said.
“We’ve had really productive and substantive talks,” Lynch said. “I don’t want to get everyone all excited that something is imminent, because we’re not there yet. But really hopeful that in the near future, we’ll be able to announce something that is exciting for everyone involved. Deebo is here today, and we’re excited about moving forward with him as part of this team.”
49ers will need to pay some serious money in to Deebo Samuel as evidenced by the extensions other receivers have signed this season such as Davante Adams<5 year-$141.25 million>, Cooper Kupp<3 year-$80 million>, Tyreek Hill<4 year-$120 million> and others. Another question that lingers is whether Samuel will take part in any practice session before an agreement is reached.
