Jordan Poyer was the safety for the Buffalo Bills and cemented himself as one of the best at the position in the league. However, currently, the former Bills safety is out of work and a free agent. Although that hasn’t stopped his popularity and influence as the 31-year-old has been strongly linked with many teams and will have multiple options when he decides to choose his next stop.
Currently, the former Eagles’ safety has no preference for his future destination. However, one aspect will play an important part in his decision to choose his next team.
The taxation laws in America are different for different states. New York state has one of the highest income tax laws, while states like Florida and Texas hold the lowest. Poyer believes in keeping his money to himself and doesn’t want to pay half his money to the government when he can choose not to.
Poyer was one of the highest-earning safeties in the NFL and signed a massive contract with the Bills, where he got a $13 million deal for 4 years. The former Bills safety spoke about the issue of taxation on his podcast recently and shared the next place he’d like to play at.
“I would love to go to a state that doesn’t take half my money,” Jordan Poyer stated on his podcast. “It’s crazy to me how taxes work. Some people will say, ‘You’re already making X amount of money.’ Taxes play a big part in all of our lives.”

Jordan Poyer shared the desire to move to Miami for the Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are the clear rivals of the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East. However, that didn’t stop Jordan Poyer from developing a likeness for the team. Additionally, the state of Florida doesn’t have stringent income tax and Poyer’s friendship with Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa will also help make his move easier.
“If it wasn’t Buffalo, it’d be nice to be warm,” Poyer said. “It would be nice to see the sun, maybe, every week or so. Every other week at least.” The former Eagles safety is currently focusing on the journey of free agency and has his eyes set on a strong preseason.
Jordan Poyer hasn’t confirmed a deal with any team yet. However, considering the skill and popularity of the player, it won’t be surprising if he has many options to choose from. Until then, the safety will have to hold tight and hope for an offer from a team that has no extravagant tax laws.
