As Florida State was robbed of a playoff spot despite a remarkable 13-0 season, quarterback Jordan Travis seemed to have taken it too personally. He was already guilty because the promising season by the Florida state had to be cut short after his gruesome injury. Now the team was brushed off by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, whose decision came in favor of Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama.

With everything that was happening, Jordan felt compelled to apologize to his team for not getting any of the four College Football Playoff berths. The quarterback even blamed his injury, wishing he had sustained it earlier this season, so everyone “could see this team is much more than the quarterback.”

devastated. heartbroken. In so much disbelief right now, I wish my leg broke earlier in the season so y’all could see this team is much more than the quarterback. I thought results matter. 13-0 and this roster matches up across any team in those top 4 rankings. I am so sorry. Go Noles!

Both Michigan and Washington are ranked top with zero losses, while Alabama and Texas with one loss, overshadowed Florida State who are ranked 5th. Michigan and Alabama are scheduled to meet in the Rose Bowl, while Washington and Texas would face in the Sugar Bowl. Meanwhile, the Seminoles would face Georgia in the Orange Bowl, by the end of December.

Why did Florida State not get a playoff spot?

During an appearance on ESPN, CFP Selection chair Boo Corrigan addressed the matter, arguing why the Florida state, despite their 13-0 record, didn’t get a playoff berth. He said,

Florida State is a different team than they were in the first 11 weeks.

He was hinting towards Travis’ serious injury. Corrigan argued that a team can run without a running back or a receiver, but it sure cannot work without its quarterback, especially “as dynamic as Jordan Travis.”

He believes since Travis went sidelined due to his injury, the whole offense of the Seminoles changed, which became a big factor in them not getting a playoff berth. The decision of not picking Florida State was sure a tough decision for the CEP committee, as the players and head coach Norvell worked really hard to earn that spot.

In the absence of a quarterback Travis, Florida State logged only 219 yards of offense in a 16-6 win against Louisville in the ACC Championship Game. Throughout this season, Travis had an impressive record of throwing 2,755 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. Therefore, without him, the Seminoles became a one-dimensional offense that couldn’t have lasted against strong teams like Michigan and Washington in the CFP, as per the committee.
