WATCH: “Something we’ll never forget,” Josh Allen holds back tears while recalling Damar Hamlin’s TRAGIC on-field incident
Damar Hamlin and Josh Allen
After more than three long days, a piece of positive news has come out of the UC Medical Center in Cincinnati that Damar Hamlin has finally opened his eyes for the first time since suffering an on-field cardiac arrest. On Monday night during the Bengals vs Bills game, Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field during the first quarter after tackling WR Tee Higgins.
Hamlin lost his breath on the field itself before the medical staff resuscitated him via CPR. His teammates, including QB Josh Allen, were horrified seeing their teammate’s condition. Allen was even seen crying on the field but now, the positive news concerning Hamlin has given a ray of hope to everyone. Hamlin has spoken his first words after the incident and while he still is at the Medical Center, he has drastically improved over the last 24 hours.
During a press conference after Bills’ practice, Allen spoke about the tragic incident and revealed how difficult it is for the team to recover from an incident of such a huge magnitude. He fought tears while talking about his teammate and said that such scenes play over and over in one’s head.
An emotional Josh Allen talks about the Damar Hamlin incident
Allen said that he can’t describe in words how the Bills players felt at that moment and said that it is something that they will never forget. He then talked about Hamlin’s health and while he knows that it will take some time for Hamlin to get normal, he is just glad that he is ‘OK’.
“The scene plays over and over in your head,” Allen said. “It’s hard to describe how I felt and how my teammates felt at that moment. It’s something we’ll never forget. But to know that Damar is OK, and I know there’s still a lot of things and stuff that he still has to process and keep going through to get back to being himself.” He further added that Hamlin’s incident was a “terrible circumstance that no one expects.”
Amidst all this, the Bengals vs Bills game that was suspended has now been canceled due to the unavailability of suitable slots. The current week will be the last for the regular season and the playoffs will begin the following weeks. A few changes have been made to the venue of the AFC Championship game but the cancelation won’t affect any playoff scenarios.
