Josh Allen slams people blaming Tee Higgins for Damar Hamlin’s injury, asks for hate campaign to stop
Josh Allen clears that there's nothing the Bengals wideout did wrong or could've done differently.
The entire sports fraternity sigh a breath of relief as Bills safety Damar Hamlin has finally regained consciousness. The Bills safety who had a cardiac arrest on the Monday Night Football game is on the path to recovery.
Fans are thankful that Hamlin is getting better and is able to communicate with people and hold their hands. Other than fans, one specific player has had the weight of the world lift off of his shoulder. The man Hamlin had his collision with- Tee Higgins.
The 23-year-old Bengals’ wide receiver was the one who crashed into Damar Hamlin, causing his collapse. People on social media, along with some of the analysts, blamed the young wideout for Hamlin’s unfortunate accident. However, NFL athletes warned people to back off from Higgins and stop blaming him for an accident that no one could’ve predicted.
People blaming Tee Higgins disgust Josh Allen
Hamlin’s father Mario Hamlin came to Tee Higgins’s rescue and asked everyone to stop criticizing him after hearing about ESPN analyst Bart Scott outright blaming the WR. During the game, Higgins caught a 13-yard pass from quarterback Joe Burrow and tried gaining a little extra yardage on the play and was on the verge of being brought down by Hamlin. Just like any other player would react in such a situation, Higgins lowered his head and slammed into the safety to avoid being contained.
The so-called “pundits” on Twitter immediately started a campaign saying that Higgins’ hit was illegal and that was the reason for Damar Hamlin suffering the horrific accident. Fans quickly came to the Bengals receiver’s aid and asked everyone to also pray for him as he too was under heavy mental stress after clashing with Hamlin.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen also trashed everyone blaming Tee Higgins on social media. He went out of his way and highlighted that Higgins was not responsible for Hamlin’s condition at a conference on Thursday. “I do want to say one more thing–I haven’t reached out to Tee–I saw some stuff on Twitter. People shouldn’t be attacking him whatsoever,” Allen was clear in his stand. He also appreciated the Hamlin family for backing Higgins amidst this media trial on WR.
“And I’m glad that Damar’s family came out and said that. Hopefully, he found some relief today. Because, again, that’s a football play. I hope that he doesn’t hold that upon himself,” Allen said. “Because, again, there’s nothing else that he could’ve done in that situation.”
Josh Allen acted like a true leader and exuded sportsmanship as he came to Higgins’ support and was hailed by fans on Twitter.
On the business side of things, the NFL has announced that the Bills-Bengals game will not resume and has been canceled. While this does not have an effect on the clubs qualifying for the postseason, it does put the seeding in the AFC in a tight spot. The league is working in tandem with team owners on a proposal and will soon provide fans with any updates.
