Contract negotiations between running back Josh Jacobs and the Las Vegas Raiders do not seem to have improved with the former yet to sign a long-term deal with the NFL team. He is currently on a franchise tag with the team which he signed in March.
This saga has been continuing for a long time and it is evident that Josh Jacobs is not happy with the current situation. This again proves that the running back position is severely undervalued in the NFL with many star players unable to sign long-term contracts.
What is more surprising is that Josh Jacobs recorded 1,653 rushing yards last season along with 12 touchdowns which was the highest in the league. Yet he is not able to secure a contract as per his terms.
Josh Jacobs takes a shot at the Las Vegas Raiders on Twitter
Josh Jacobs has once again taken a jab at the Las Vegas Raiders this time tweeting just two words to express his dissatisfaction. Jacobs wrote “bad business” in a recent tweet which could be aimed at the standstill the two parties are at the moment.
Earlier as well Josh Jacobs had shared a passage from The Athletics Jim Trotter who has written on the pay discrepancy in the NFL for running backs. “The NFL is the only major professional sports league where salaries are tied to position groups, which often means you will be underpaid despite overproducing,” Jacobs had posted.
However, Cody Benjamin from CBS Sports believes that Josh Jacobs could be getting his dream offer from other teams as well. He gave a reference to Sean Payton, the head coach for Denver praising Jacobs and who could welcome him.
“We doubt the Raiders would prefer to trade their franchise player inside the division, but Denver’s new coach, Sean Payton, gushed about Jacobs earlier this offseason, paid decent money for starting RBs in New Orleans, and could use downhill insurance as Javonte Williams returns from injury, with newcomer Samaje Perine better suited for No. 2 duties,” he said.
Josh Jacobs will be earning $10.1 million on the franchise tag in the 2023-24 season.
