The New England Patriots are one of the most successful teams in the league most of that success came in the last 2 decades under the leadership of their legendary head coach Bill Belichick and the GOAT Tom Brady.
During that period the Patriots made 9 Super Bowls and won 6 which almost made it impossible for the Patriots’ to be the centrepiece of a show that covers struggling franchises that are on the rise as they were almost always on the top.
So when one Patriot great was asked about never being the focus of a Hard Knocks series and if he ever wished the Patriots would have done hard knocks. He gave an insight into what made the Patriots great.
Julian Edelman was an integral part of the New England Patriots for 12 seasons. A 3 time Super Bowl Champion Edelman has quite a few admirers like Patriots’ legendary head coach Bill Belichick and 7 times Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady. Edelman retired after the 2020 season. Since then Edelman is frequently seen appearing on talk shows and in one such appearance recently on the Rich Eisen Show, he was asked about ever wishing to do Hard Knocks.

Edelman’s straightforward answer was “no.” He elaborated- “No, I don’t wanna get embarrassed on national TV…..You know like when you have, when you get into like Bill Belichick’s meetings and he’d have these low lights of practice. He immediately like right when you get in and you’re sitting there trying to do the math -‘How did he get all this data plays like we literally got off the field 45 minutes and then he came like explaining everything.”
“The accountability factor that he made you feel when he would get on anyone for the wrong ME [missed error] or any like kinda sloppy fundamental type football lay that we talked over and over and over and over about, Edelman continued,-” That was the worst for a player because specially if you are a player trying to make the team. You’re trying to earn a role cause he’s doing it in front of everyone.“
“This creates an environment of you have to accountable to your team. You don’t ever wanna let the guy down sitting right next to you.”
The show’s host Rich Eisen hilariously said- “I just think it be like one of those top secret documents like redacted where all those lines are darkened out. Nothing would have gotten on the air if Bellichick did Hard Knocks.”
Edelman concluded-“You can have Bill trilling his whistle that’s like the one cut everyone has of Bill Belichick.”
