After a week of quarterback merry-go-round, Justin Fields finally knows where he will be playing in 2024. NFL insider Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter both confirmed that the Chicago Bears have agreed to trade Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The writing was already on the wall; it only required confirmation. Pittsburgh has seen several quarterbacks arrive and leave in the past few days. It began with Mitch Trubisky returning to Buffalo, followed by Mason Rudolph‘s departure to Tennessee.

At this point, the Steelers were left with Kenny Pickett as the sole survivor in the quarterback room. General manager Omar Khan whizzed his magic wand and struck a cut-price deal with veteran Super Bowl winner Russell Wilson last Sunday. On top of earning $38 million in dead-cap money from the Broncos, Wilson accepted a one-year $1.21 million extension.

However, hardly anyone predicted the next massive news to arrive from Steel City. Just three days after Wilson’s arrival, Pickett left to join the Philadelphia Eagles. Even though there have been question marks on his performances since entering the league in 2022, this was a massive development.

The 25-year-old’s sudden change in heart opened a vacancy. On Saturday, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers were signing Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears.

In exchange for the Ohio State graduate, the Bears received a sixth-round draft pick. Yet, if Fields plays 51% of the games in 2024, then that would upgrade to a fourth-round pick.

Russell Wilson embraced Justin Fields’ move to the Steelers

Wilson was relishing the opportunity to finally secure a move away from the horrors of leaving Denver. Shortly after he landed in Pittsburgh, the 35-year-old contacted Pickett with hopes of kicking things off on the right path. But that didn’t go according to plan.

Russell Wilson got a second chance to make things right yesterday after the trade announcement for Justin Fields. He took to social media and welcomed his young teammate.

This is a very smart move from Omar Khan. Both Wilson and Fields are quite similar in their approach to play. The 25-year-old will be a great foil to Wilson’s calm-mind set during game days. Fields is a dynamic dual-threat quarterback, which will come in handy when Mike Tomlin needs to speed things up a notch.
