Justin Jefferson can safely be called as a ‘once in a generation talent’. The WR has lit up the league since his arrival in the NFL and is considered as one of the best WRs currently.
However, currently he is not paid like one and that can soon change according to recent reports. The Minnesota Vikings have expressed strong interest in renewing Jefferson’s contract and tying him down for many more years to come.
The Vikings believe that the 23-year old WR is their future and they will pay him like one. According to a report by Jeremy Fowler from the ESPN, Jefferson is set to become the highest paid non QB in the NFL. Currently, that spot is reserved by LA Rams DT Aaron Donald, but soon the Vikings WR could challenge it.
Donald has a salary of around $31 million. It is speculated that Jefferson’s new contract will get him anywhere around $32 million. The WR market has also shot up recently just like the QB market.
Many star WRs in the league command salaries of around $30 – $31 million. However, Jefferson’s new contract has the ability to trump each WR in the league in terms of financial standards.

Justin Jefferson has been spectacular for the Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings found a diamond during the 2020 NFL draft when they drafted Justin Jefferson in the first round. The WR started to perform since the first season itself and hasn’t looked back since then.
Jefferson has recorded impressive stats in his tenure with the Vikings with 324 receptions for 4,825 yards and an impressive 25 touchdowns as well. Maybe, this is the reason why Vikings are adamant towards securing him a new deal.
However, if the Vikings chose to renew Jefferson’s contract now then it won’t leave excess space in the salary cap to accommodate the extension of QB Kirk Cousins. Cousins contract expires in 2024 and the future is still uncertain for him.
On the other hand, Justin Jefferson‘s contract will last by the end of 2024. Therefore, the Vikings don’t have an urgent need to secure his contract. However, the more time they wait, the more they have to pay him.
