Kadarius Toney, the wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, did not have a wonderful season in 2023. He made multiple mistakes and dropped a few catches in the regular season which made him the bane of jokes on social media. His performance even made the football fans so frustrated that they sarcastically wrote ‘Don’t drop it’ when Toney posted a picture with his newborn.
Despite poor performance on the gridiron, the WR is optimistic about his future. In an interview with ESPN, the WR claimed that he can be the No.1 wide receiver in the league and can create a threat if he gets the ball consistently from his QB Patrick Mahomes.
Ahead of the Super Bowl LVIII opening night when a reporter asked him if he can be the No. 1 receiver in the league, Toney said while laughing,
Yeah, if I get it. If I get the ball, yeah.
Kadarius Toney’s name has been subjected to a lot of trolling lately. He has not been playing since Week 15 due to multiple injuries. He was absent from the entire postseason due to the same. Nonetheless, this injury update regarding Toney created a few controversies in the team.
A few days back, an Instagram account associated with Toney, made a live that claimed that he was not hurt. It created so much controversy that the Chiefs’ head coach, Andy Reid had to come and clear the air. The HC said,
Obviously he's been on the injury report, so that part is not made up by any means. But he's been working through some things and he'll be back out there.
Toney later clarified his comments
On the Super Bowl opening night, Kadarius Toney commented on the entire ‘fake injury’ scenario. He gave his side of the things.
I wanted to go out there and get my message across as far as my injury, but I shouldn't have done that at the end of the day--I'm a man, and I can accept my mistakes, just like I accept my wins. But I'm moving past that right now, because we're here now and we're trying to win.
The wide receiver is finally expected to make a comeback in the Super Bowl. His role is going to be interesting in the game for the Lombardi trophy. The Chiefs, throughout the season, suffered due to the absence of a proper wide receiver. Even with these obstacles, the Kansas-based team has made it to the Super Bowl game in consecutive years.
